Our Journey in the NICU
Being in the NICU is a rollercoaster of emotions. The stress and worry can be overwhelming, but there are moments that bring a smile to our faces and remind us of the good in the world. One such moment for us was Halloween.
A Special Nurse with a Big Heart
During our stay in the NICU, we met some incredible nurses who went above and beyond in their care for the babies. One nurse, in particular, had a tradition that truly touched our hearts. Over the years, she had saved holiday-themed outfits for the premature babies. This small gesture brought a sense of normalcy and joy to families during such difficult times.
Our Little Skeleton
We were in the NICU over Halloween, and it was then that this wonderful nurse dressed our son up as a skeleton. Seeing our little one in his adorable costume was a moment of pure joy amidst the stress and uncertainty. It was such a thoughtful way to celebrate the holiday, and it made us feel like we were part of the festivities, even in the hospital.
A Memorable News Feature
To make the day even more special, a local news crew (Channel 12 in Phoenix) stopped by the NICU. They captured footage of the babies in their Halloween outfits, including our son. That night, our little skeleton was featured on the news in a heartwarming piece. The news segment highlighted how the NICU babies were able to celebrate the holidays and how these moments helped families feel a bit of normalcy during trying times.
Finding Joy in Small Moments
Reflecting on that Halloween, we're incredibly grateful for the outstanding NICU nurses who made such a difference in our journey. Their kindness and creativity brought light into a challenging time, and those memories will stay with us forever. While the NICU experience is tough, it's the small, joyful moments like these that remind us of the resilience and love that surrounds us.
